COMING SOON is a storefront project dedicated to the next thing.
Part exhibition space, part staging area, part perpetual grand opening, COMING SOON operates under the assumption that the most interesting things are often still taking shape. It is a place for ideas that are still forming, projects that are rolling along, or simply something weird and exciting that wants to be seen.
Rather than presenting a fixed program, COMING SOON is designed as a flexible resource for artists, makers, organizers, and self-starters looking for a place to test ideas, gather people, share work, or create an occasion. Its future is intentionally open. Each project becomes a temporary answer to the question of what that might be.
COMING SOON is not a curated venue as much as a hosted one. It exists to support people with something they want to put into the world who simply need a place to do it. If that describes YOU, please send me a note!

Public Collectors: Protest Grim Reapers and other publications
Public Collectors is a Chicago-based project administrated by Marc Fischer. Since 2007, Public Collectors has elevated subcultural, underground, marginal, amateur, and collective perspectives that many museum and institutional collections neglect. For this presentation, Public Collectors will share enlarged images from Fischer’s collection of newspaper archive photos of people appearing at protests dressed as the grim reaper or other death figures. The photos—which will be displayed in enlarged prints on the windows of Coming Soon—are the subject of a book titled “Protest Grim Reapers” that was first published in 2022. In addition to a new expanded version of that book, Public Collectors will share other examples from the over 120 publications it has made since 2007. Fischer will read from some of these publications at two Sunday events on September 6th and 13th. Events are from 11 AM - 2 PM. Readings will start at noon.

Zoe VanZyl: Bubblegum Guts
Statement by the Artist:
The paintings in this exhibition are an exploration of mortality through a lens of femininity, esotericism, and the strangeness or corporeality. This series began almost accidentally with neoapocalypse, an exploration into the glamorization of death through mold, crosses and bones in the form of a “zombie girl”. These girls wear their hearts on their sleeves, or in some cases on a gold chain around their neck. They are beautiful and strange; editorial and eerie. This show unravels the idea of the “divine femininity” into a grotesque surreality, exposing the parts of ourselves we don’t quite understand and turning it into something ornamental.
