Public Collectors is a Chicago-based project administrated by Marc Fischer. Since 2007, Public Collectors has elevated subcultural, underground, marginal, amateur, and collective perspectives that many museum and institutional collections neglect. For this presentation, Public Collectors will share enlarged images from Fischer’s collection of newspaper archive photos of people appearing at protests dressed as the grim reaper or other death figures. The photos—which will be displayed in enlarged prints on the windows of Coming Soon—are the subject of a book titled “Protest Grim Reapers” that was first published in 2022. In addition to a new expanded version of that book, Public Collectors will share other examples from the over 120 publications it has made since 2007. Fischer will read from some of these publications at two Sunday events on September 6th and 13th. Events are from 11 AM - 2 PM. Readings will start at noon.
